The Federation’s joint sponsorship with TVCCA to provide a weekly kosher hot lunch to all members of the community (60+) is up and running at Temple Emanu-El, 29 Dayton Rd., Waterford.
Every Monday, lunch is served at 12:30. Doors open at noon and there is a light appetizer before the meal. The requested donation for this partially Federally funded nutrition program is $3 per person per meal, with higher amounts requested for special parties around Jewish and secular holidays.
Norm Belanger continues as our cook extraordinaire, with assistance from Kim Casey. Beth Hubbert provides craft and other activities, and arranges special entertainment for the holiday programs.
The past few weeks we have served chili, cheese ravioli, fish chowder, and tuna grinders. Upcoming lunches include hot dogs and salmon.
Every month JFEC Executive Director Jerry Fischer gives an update on current events in America, Israel, and around the world.
Transportation can be provided to seniors who are unable to drive to Temple Emanu-El. Call Beth at the office on the Thursday prior to the lunch you want to attend, 860-444-6333, to arrange transportation and to reserve a meal.
The Kosher Hot Lunch program is funded by the TVCCA and the Jewish Federation of Eastern CT Annual Campaign, with additional funding from the Martin and Millie Shapiro Endowment Fund and other congregational and communal funds.
All ingredients are kosher, and there is a strict separation of dairy and meat. Menus are posted monthly in the Jewish Leader and in the bi-monthly senior newsletter, The Maven.
Mark your calendars: The next big party will be a Chanukah/New Year Party on Monday December 18, with special entertainment and raffle prizes. But don’t wait for the next party! Come and enjoy a great lunch starting this Monday!
